Terms of Service

1. Agreement and eligibility

These Terms of Service are a legal agreement between you and Three Rules LLC, doing business as The Read Before ("TRB," "we," or "us"). By using TRB, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement. By using TRB, you confirm that you meet those requirements.

2. The service

TRB provides AI-generated development reads of submitted scripts and related material. Its professional rooms are AI simulations. No real producer, director, actor, studio executive, or greenlight committee reviews your material through TRB.

TRB is a development tool. It is not representation, legal or financial advice, a contest, a listing service, or a connection to buyers.

Company names and other industry references used by TRB are illustrative market context only. They do not imply affiliation with, endorsement by, or involvement of any named company. A TRB read is not a submission, referral, introduction, representation, or other pathway to a buyer, and we do not promise a sale, option, representation, production, distribution, or other outcome.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for providing accurate account information, safeguarding access to your account, and all activity under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

4. Your material and intellectual property

You retain all rights in material you submit. You grant us a limited, temporary license to process that material solely to provide the requested read. You represent that you own or otherwise have the rights needed to submit the material and that your submission does not violate another person's rights.

We may store generated reads and related project information in your account. We do not claim ownership of your script, treatment, or other submitted source material, and we use submitted material only to provide the service. You may use the generated reads for your project for any lawful purpose.

Submitted material is processed through the APIs of major U.S. large language model providers — such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Alphabet — under terms that prohibit the provider from training on your work. See our Privacy Policy for more information.

5. AI-generated reads and outcomes

Reads are generated by software and may be incomplete, inaccurate, or similar to material generated for others. You are responsible for evaluating a read and for every creative, legal, financial, and business decision you make. We do not guarantee that your material will be optioned, sold, produced, represented, or received in any particular way.

6. Purchases, credits, and refunds

The checkout displays the product, total price charged by TRB, and included credits before you confirm a purchase. Credits are non-transferable and may be used only as described in the service. Paid credits do not expire merely because time passes: an account-level project credit remains available until it is used to create a project, and a read credit remains with its project until it is used.

Deleting a project deletes its generated reads and forfeits any unused read credits attached to that project. Deleting your account removes the account and its remaining credits.

If a read is canceled, refused, or not completed, its read credit is automatically returned to that project. This credit restoration is not a cash refund.

You may request a cash refund during the 14 days after purchase if that purchase remains wholly unused. "Wholly unused" means that no credit included in the purchase has been used to create a project or run a read. Once any included credit has been used, the purchase is not eligible for a routine change-of-mind cash refund. A completed read is not refundable merely because you disagree with it.

If we cannot provide the service you purchased, we may issue a cash refund rather than leave you with an unusable credit. To request an eligible refund, email team@thereadbefore.com. Nothing in these terms limits any refund or consumer right that applicable law does not allow us to limit.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue a credit program, price, or promotional offer prospectively, with reasonable notice of material changes. A change like that does not take away credits you have already purchased: if a credit program ends, your already-purchased credits remain usable as described, or we will replace them at equivalent value or refund what you paid for them. We may remove or invalidate credits that were obtained or used through fraud, abuse, a chargeback or other payment reversal, or a violation of these terms, or where we are required to do so by law.

7. Acceptable use

• Submit only material you have the right to submit.
• Do not use TRB for unlawful, infringing, fraudulent, or harmful activity.
• Do not attack, overload, reverse-engineer, or disrupt the service.
• Do not resell the service or give another person access to your account.
• Do not bypass billing, credits, rate limits, or access controls.

8. Copyright complaints

If you believe material available through TRB infringes your copyright, send a notice to team@thereadbefore.com that includes: identification of the copyrighted work; identification and location of the material you believe infringes it; your name, address, and email; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature.

If your material was removed because of a notice you believe was mistaken, you may send a counter-notice to the same address, and we may restore the material as the law allows. We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate your account for a material breach of these terms, fraud or abuse, or when the law requires it, and we will give you notice where practicable. You may stop using TRB or delete your account at any time through the app. The effect of account or project deletion, and of fraud- or abuse-based removal, on credits is described in Section 6.

10. Availability, warranties, and liability

TRB is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. The service may change, pause, or be discontinued, and reads may be unavailable or incomplete. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of any kind and are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the service or reliance on a read.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the service or these terms is capped at the greater of the amounts you paid TRB in the twelve months before the claim arose or $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or damage limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

11. Indemnification

You will defend and indemnify TRB and hold it harmless against third-party claims, and the reasonable costs of those claims, to the extent they arise from material you submit — including a claim that the material infringes another person's rights — or from your violation of law or of these terms. We will notify you promptly of any such claim and may participate in its defense.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by New Jersey law, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Except for an eligible individual claim brought in small-claims court, a dispute must be brought in a state court of competent jurisdiction in Camden County, New Jersey, or in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. You and TRB consent to those courts.

These terms do not require arbitration and do not waive any right to bring or participate in a class or representative action. Nothing in this section limits a forum or consumer right that applicable law does not allow us to waive.

13. General

Neither party is responsible for a delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond its reasonable control.

We may assign these terms in connection with a merger, reorganization, or sale of the business. You may not assign them without our written consent.

These terms and the policies they reference are the entire agreement between you and TRB about the service. If we do not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of it.

If any provision of these terms cannot be enforced, it will be limited or removed only to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will stay in effect.
